Tahoe/Douglas Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot to be held Nov. 14

The Tahoe/Douglas Elks Lodge will host its annual Hoop Shoot basketball contest at 10 a.m. on Nov. 14 at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
The contest is open to boys and girls who are 8-to-13 years of age as of April 1, 2016. There is no cost to compete. Winners in each age category qualify for the District Shoot in Reno on Jan. 16, 2016.

Shotokan event on Saturday
The Carson Valley and Tahoe Shotokan Karate dojos will host a combined practice and demonstration Saturday at Pulse Fitness Gym in Minden.
The event is open to the public starting at 1 p.m. at Pulse Fitness, Mahogany Drive.

Shotokan classes are regularly held at Pulse 7:15-8:45 p.m. on Mondays and 6:45-8:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Milligan wins at Empire Ranch
Bill Milligan won Flight A during the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club Stableford tournament on Oct. 14 at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City.
Milligan carded a score of 48 to win the flight by two points ahead of Geoff Swann. Bill Hetherton took third-place at 45, while Steve Scharfe finished fourth at 42 and Don Swanson fifth at 42.
Rich Torok won Flight B with his 45, followed by Dick Blankenship, Dennis Justin, Lee Ghiglieri and Al Giannotti, all at 42.
Steve Isaacson won Flight C with his score of 41. Joe O'Brien and Kurt Cleek finished second and third respectively, both with scores of 40. Fred Perdomo and Don Wilson finished fourth and fifth respectively, both at 39.
Joe Gibson won Flight D with a 9, three points better than Tony Grinceri. Marty Martinez took third-place at 44, Bob Pluth was fourth at 43 and Peter Youngdahl was fifth at 42.
Closest-to-the-pin winners included Milligan on the White Course fourth hole, Ghiglieri on White No. 8, Gibson on Blue No. 5 and Nils Sharpe on Blue No. 8.
