Sparman wins flight on tie-breaker during men’s club tourney

Jack Sparman edged out David Morris on a tie-breaker to win Flight A Sunday during the Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club individual stroke play tournament.

Sparman and Morris carded net scores of 71 to share first-place in the flight at the Carson Valley Golf Course. Roger Hala shot 73 to take third-place.

Augie Martinez also won Flight B on a tie-breaker over Frank Tisiot, as both carded net scores of 69. Nel Bain was one shot behind in third-place.

Jim Tavernier shot 65 to win Flight C. Paul Finan took second-place with his 71 and Jack Zippwald shot 72 for third-place.

Closest-to-the-pin winners included Sparman on the first hole and Morris on No. 18.

Elks Hoop Shoot on Nov. 14

The Tahoe/Douglas Elks Lodge will host its annual Hoop Shoot basketball contest at 10 a.m. on Nov. 14 at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.

The contest is open to boys and girls who are 8-to-13 years of age as of April 1, 2016. There is no cost to compete. Winners in each of the three age categories will be eligible to compete at the District Shoot in Reno on Jan. 16, 2016. The State Shoot will be held in Hawthorne on Feb. 13, 2016 and the regional finals in Las Vegas on Feb. 27, 2016.
