Smitreski, Prause win at tournament
Marc Prause and Ken Smitreski combined to win their flight during Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club team tournament play on Sunday.
Prause and Smitreski carded a net 67 to earn a one-shot victory for Flight A in the Chapman format event at Carson Valley Golf Course.
Dennis Patterson and Charles Poe took second-place with their 68, while Roger Hala and Don Henderson took third-place at 73.
Joe Morrison and John Pearson won Flight B with a 62. Neil Bain and Jim Travernier carded a second-place score of 69 that was two shots better than Larry Lockwood and John Guidicatti in third-place.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Augie Martinez on the first hole, Bob Pemberton on No. 13 and Dan Essary on No. 18.
Cabela’s events start on Monday
Cabela’s will be offering sales, giveaways, guest appearances, product demonstrations and more during the company’s special Take Aim event at its Reno location Monday through Oct. 19.
The Cabela’s store is located at 8650 Boomtown Garson Road in Verdi.
On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16, Cabela’s staff members will present two different product demonstrations and seminars. At noon, Cabela’s STR Advanced Electronic Hearing Protection will be available for testing in the hunting department; and at 2 p.m.
Cabela’s line of Instinct Optics will be on display for demonstrations and testing at the optics counter.
Guest appearances will include The Well-Armed Woman at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, to present a free Introduction to handguns course in conference room 1.
Other Saturday offerings include an arrow building clinic at 10 a.m. and a beginning fly fishing class at 10 a.m.

Tah-Neva League finals next Friday
The Tah-Neva League Cross Country Championships will be held next Friday at Kahle Park and Community Center at Stateline.
Pau-Wa-Lu and Carson Valley middle school runners will compete in the meet, which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
Seventh and eighth grade races will be held for girls and boys.
