Ponderosa Ridge Run returns on Saturday
One of the area’s oldest and most demanding running events returns Saturday when the 42nd annual Ponderosa Ridge Run is held from Spooner Summit to Kingsbury.
The 9.5-mile trail race starts at 10 a.m. from the Spooner Summit Maintenance Station on Highway 50 and follows a trail across the mountain tops. The race tests runners with a climb of nearly 2,000 feet in the first 4-1/2 miles leading to the finish at the end of Andria Drive .
J.P. Donovan is the three-time defending champion who won last year’s race in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 20 seconds. The course record of 1:01:23 was set in 1986 by Rick Gentry.
A $2 donation is asked and all sign-ups are taken at the start. No aid stations are available along the course.
Survivor ribbons will be awarded to all finishers and refreshments will be available at the finish.

Adult soccer league
sign-ups start July 15
Early registration for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department adult open soccer league season will open on July 15.
Games will be played at Ranchos Aspen Park during the season, which will begin the week of Aug. 28. The regular season will include eight games, followed by a single-elimination tournament. Four games will be played each Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
The fee is $550 during the early registration period from July 15-Aug. 15 and $600 during the final registration period from Aug. 15-22. A managers meeting will be held on Aug. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
Youth flag football registration continues
Registration is now being taken for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department-sponsored NFL Youth Flag Football program.
The league, for girls and boys in first through 12th grades, plays a season that starts Aug. 1 and ends on Oct. 22.
A player draft will be held the week of Aug. 1, scrimmages start on Aug. 20 and regular season games begin on Aug. 27.
The cost is $80 for all ages, $90 from July 16-27.
At least 40 volunteer coaches are needed for the program in the third-fourth grade, fifth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade and high school leagues.
Douglas County Parks and Recreation coach’s application and background checks are required for those coaches.
Carson Valley Fastpitch election set for Aug. 1
Carson Valley Fastpitch will hold elections for board positions at 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.

Letters may also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than July 10. Candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview at the meeting. Attendance at the Aug. 1 meeting is mandatory.

MEFIYI charity golf tournament Aug. 6
The “All 4 Charity” Golf Tournament to benefit local youth sports will be held Aug. 6 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
This event is organized by Me-for-Incredible-Youth, Inc. (MEFIYI). Reservations are $100 per person that includes continental breakfast, barbecue Lunch and a chance to win prizes on and off the golf course. Proceeds from tournament will assist organized youth sports and mentorship programs that provide fitness, sport, education and wellness activities for Northern Nevada Student-athletes.

Valley Championships 3-on-3 hoops July 30-31
The Valley Championships 3-on-3 basketball tournament for all ages will be held July 30-31, presented by MEFIYI and Douglas High School basketball.
The tournament at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center is for youth and adults, male and female. Boys and girls divisions are open for players ages 8-12, 13-15 and high school, as well as men’s and women’s Divisions under and over 40 years of age. Players are invited to play in two or more divisions.
The cost is $80 per team, with a maximum of four players who will receive a T-shirt. Proceeds benefit Carson Valley youth basketball and sports programs.
King Crab Feed Aug. 12
The seventh annual All 4 Charity King Crab Feed & Steak Cookout will be held on Aug. 12 at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
Since the first event in 2009, the King Crab and Steak feed has donated $120,000 to Carson Valley organizations such as Boys & Girls Club of Carson Valley, Austin’s House, Douglas County Community & Senior Center, Douglas High School Leadership Club, Alpine Search and Rescue, Backpack Buddies and other important programs.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit local organizations MEFIYI, Welcome All Veterans Everywhere (WAVE) and local youth sport programs.
Tickets are now available at Saletti’s Restaurant, the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce Office and Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
