The Pahranagat Valley Panthers extended their nation-best prep football win streak to 68 games Friday with a 62-14 win against Coleville in the Division IV state semifinals.

Jordan Cryts and Wade Leavitt combined to score eight touchdowns for Pahranagat (11-0).

Coleville ended its season with a 9-1 record.



In Division I playoff action on Friday, Carson was a 27-10 victor against Damonte Ranch 27-10 and Reed defeated Galena, 53-44.



CVGS needs coaches

The Carson Valley Girls Softball Association is in need of experienced coaches for its 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under and 16-and-under Hot Shots tournament teams.

Basketball coaches, officials needed

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting coaches and game officials for its youth and high school recreation basketball program.

Fifty volunteer coaches are needed. Head coach application and background check packets were due by Nov. 1.

Officials are also needed. Officials must be at least 16 years or older.

Registration remains open for players. The program is open to boys and girls from third grade through high school seniors on Saturdays during a season that extends from December through March.

Elks ‘Hoop Shoot’

The Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks “Hoop Shoot” National Basketball Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14, 2014 at C.C. Meneley Elementary School.

The contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m., is open to boys and girls age 8-13 in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.

Each contestant will have 25 free throw shots at the hoop. Registration will take place at the event.

Local winners will qualify for the district finals in Reno on Jan. 18 with the state finals to be held Feb. 1 in Hawthorne.
