Munyan leads Douglas runners at regional meet
Moriah Munyan placed 13th in her junior girls race to set the pace for a contingent of Douglas High School runners who competed on Saturday at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West Regional in Walnut, Calif.
Munyan ran the challenging and muddy 5-kilometer course at Mt. San Antonio College in a time of 20 minutes, 18 seconds.
Lindsey Adams, another Douglas junior, ran in the meet’s elite seeded girls race and ran a time of 20:22 that was good for 41st-place. The top 10 in the girls and boys seeded races qualified to run this Saturday at the Foot Locker National Championships in San Diego.
Two Douglas runners also competed in the 3-mile frosh-soph girls race. Madison Cote ran 20:11 to finish 17th and Lizzy Byrne ran 20:24 to finish 22nd. William McCready finished 141st in the senior boys race in 20:27.
The Foot Locker regional meet attracted participants from 12 states. Now in its 35th year, the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships is the longest running national level high school cross country race in the nation.
Flag football sign-ups set
Early sign-ups for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department’s Adult Flag Football League will be held Dec. 16 through Jan. 10.
The cost is $465 per team and includes 10 regular season games and a post season elimination tournament. The fee will increase to $515 after Jan. 10. The registration deadline is Jan. 17 and games start on Jan. 26.

Elks Hoop Shoot
The Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks Hoop Shoot National Basketball Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14 at Meneley Elementary School.
The contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m., is open to boys and girls age 8-13 in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.
Each contestant will have 25 free throw shots at the hoop.
Registration will take place at the event.
Local winners will qualify for the district finals in Reno on Jan. 18 with the state finals to be held Feb. 1 in Hawthorne.
