Locals advance in Punt, Pass and Kick
Three Carson Valley athletes have qualified to compete on Dec. 15 for honors and possible advancement at the NFL Punt Pass and Kick team championship event in Oakland.
Mary Shumaker, in the girls 14-15 age division, Kevin Reid, in the girls 12-13 division and Kolten Brown in the boys 6-7 division each won their sectional competition and qualified to compete again at the AFC West contest between the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday.
The top four scorers in each of the 10 age divisions from all 32 team championship events will qualify to advance to the Punt Pass and Kick National Championships, which take place at a January NFL playoff game.
Flag football sign-ups set
Early sign-ups for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department’s Adult Flag Football League will be held Dec. 16 through Jan. 10.
The cost is $465 per team and includes 10 regular season games and a post season elimination tournament. The fee will increase to $515 after Jan. 10. The registration deadline is Jan. 17 and games start on Jan. 26.

Elks Hoop Shoot
The Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks Hoop Shoot National Basketball Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14 at Meneley Elementary School.
The contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m., is open to boys and girls age 8-13 in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.
Each contestant will have 25 free throw shots at the hoop.
Registration will take place at the event.
Local winners will qualify for the district finals in Reno on Jan. 18 with the state finals to be held Feb. 1 in Hawthorne.
