Krysta Palmer Recognition Day set
The Carson Valley Swim Center will host “Krysta Palmer Recognition Day” on Saturday from 3-6 p.m.
Palmer, a 2010 Douglas High graduate who went on to become two-time Mountain West Conference Diver of the Year and competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials this summer, will share her story and put on a diving exhibition as part of an event that is free to the public. She will also provide coaching to young participants.
“This is where I grew up and where all my birthday parties were held, so this place means a lot to me,” she said. “I’m excited. Everybody’s welcome. I want to give back to the community.”
Pancreatic golf Saturday
Skills in golf, distance running and power lifting will be tested by participants at the third annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day Saturday at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City.
A bench press contest — hosted by Fitness For 10 and billed as the Carson City Bench Press Championships — will be held from 7-9 a.m. KAIA Fit and the Tahoe Mountain Milers will co-host a 5K/10K run and walk at 8 a.m. And the four-man scramble golf tournament starts at 9 a.m.
Six golf divisions are available, including men’s, women’s and mixed, as well as 55-and-over men, women and mixed. Michael Hohl Motors is offering a vehicle as a hole-in-one prize.
The cost of the bench press contest is $10 for three lifts with a variety of categories to be offered. The 5K and 10K costs $30 ($35 on race day) and $10 for children 12-and-under. Forms are available at KAIA Fit, CV Sports and the Active.com website. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will receive 75 percent of proceeds and 25 percent will benefit the Carson City Kiwanis scholarship fund.
