Girls softball sign-ups continue

Carson Valley Girls Softball Association season sign-ups continue Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gardnerville fire station, 1255 Douglas Ave.

The league is open to players ages 4 to 18. The age divisions include 4-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13 and 14-18. Eligibility for each division is based on a player’s age as of Jan. 1. Recent high school graduates who are 18 as of Jan. 1, 2014 are eligible to play.

The cost is $80 for girls ages 4 through 6 and $85 for those 7-and-older. A family rate of $160 is available.

New players need to bring birth certificate copies. Returning players should bring a completed registration form.

The final registration date is scheduled to be held next Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the fire station.

Trail runs on Saturday

The Love Can Be Cold trail runs will be held on Saturday in Carson City.

Scheduled for a 9 a.m. start at Carson River Park, runners will have the option to participate in 5-kilometer or 10K races (trail conditions allowing).

This marks the fourth leg in the Winter trail Run Series presented by Ascent Runs.

The 5K course is a flat out-and-back route along the Carson River, mostly on a jeep road. The 10K will offer a challenging route with an ascent/descent.

High school tennis clinic set

A beginner to advance tennis clinic being offered through Feb. 24 at 4-5 p.m. by the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is designed to provide an opportunity for high school aged students interested in tennis to learn the fundamentals in a fun and energetic class environment.

Classes will be held Mondays on the Lampe Park tennis courts under the direction of Douglas High School coaches Ginny Unger and Susan Cowan.

Classes will be held when weather conditions allow.

Students need to wear tennis shoes and bring a racket. The cost is $70.

Interested persons may pre-register at the recreation department, 1323 Waterloo Lane.

Adult volleyball sign-ups

Early registration for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department adult spring volleyball league will continue until Feb. 14.

Four leagues are being offered: Women’s 6-on-6 league on Monday nights, Open A 4-on-4 league on Tuesdays, Coed C 6-on-6 league on Wednesdays and Coed B 6-on-6 league on Thursdays. Teams begin play at the Carson Valley Middle School March 3.

The early registration fee is $200, which includes eight regular season games and a single elimination postseason tournament. The fee will increase to $225 after Feb. 14. The registration cutoff is Feb. 21.
