Ducks baseball tryouts May 16-17
Tryouts for the Douglas Ducks summer 16U baseball team will be held on May 16-17 at Douglas High School.
Both tryout sessions will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on the junior varsity field. The team is designed for returning Douglas High JV players and other players who are going to be ninth or 10th graders, according to coach Marc Walling.
The Ducks will play a summer schedule that extends from May 26 through July 11. There is a cost to play that will be determined before the tryout date.

Carson Valley Express tryouts
Two tryout dates at Lampe Park have been set for the Carson Valley Express youth travel baseball club for its 10U through 13U age division fall travel teams.
Tryouts will be held on May 13 at 11 a.m. on Field 5 and again on May 17 at 6 p.m.
The program is entering its second fall season after fielding five teams last fall — 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U and 16U. The Express 13U and 14U teams are already playing their spring and summer schedule.
The cost is $130 to join, and for new players, $125 for two jerseys and a hat. Monthly dues (which vary) and tournament fees are not included in the entry fee.

Fore The Kids golf on May 13
The annual Fore The Kids charity golf tournament is May 13 at The Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes.
Proceeds benefit programs that 900-plus youth and their families need and access each year. Money also supports the Douglas County Sheriff Explorer’s youth programs and the Carson Valley Medical Center.
Core Construction is the event’s presenting sponsor, and Starbucks, Western Nevada Supply, Pro Group Management, Michael Hohl Automotive and Continuum Packing Solutions are title sponsors.
The cost to play in the four-man scramble is $125 which includes breakfast, lunch, golf and cart.

Kids’ Fishing Derby registration Saturday
Registration to the 28th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby will continue on Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Walgreens in Gardnerville.
The derby, for children 3-12 years of age, is June 3-4 at Lampe Park.
Registration is also available at Accolades Trophies during regular business hours. Both locations also register derby volunteers and will sell raffle tickets to help pay for fish, prizes, tackle and bait for the kids.
The grand prizes for the raffle this year are a Mad Dog scooter, a kid’s quad and a $300 gift card from Sportsman’s Warehouse.

Alexander Clinic at Eagle Valley
The 25th annual Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic is scheduled to be held on May 21 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.
The free golf clinic is for kids from 6 to 17 and their families. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m., and the clinic gets underway at 11:45 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m.
The clinic is sponsored by the Alexander and Raupp families, Michael Hohl Automotive, Battle Born Harley Davidson, Eagle Valley Golf Course, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Patricia and David Kepler Foundation, the E.J. Tegner Foundation and the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the NCPGA. Local professionals will be instructing at the clinic.

Zephyr Cove tennis lessons set for June 3
Zephyr Cove Tennis Club will offer tennis lessons this summer for girls and boys ages 4-12.
A free clinic will be offered on June 3 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. This will be a refresher for those who have played before and an introduction to the sport for newcomers.
The sessions for 4-7-year-olds are $35 each and 8-12-year-olds are $75.

Douglas alumni golf tournament on June 16
The Douglas High School football program will host its sixth annual alumni golf tournament June 16 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
The Friday tournament starts at 9 a.m. with a post-tournament luncheon to follow at the Carson Valley Country Club.
The cost is $100 per person for those who register before May 1 ($125 afterward) or $400 for a foursome. Hole sponsorships are available for $100.
