Douglas basketball teams play again Friday against Galena

The Douglas High School boys and girls basketball teams return to action on Friday at home against Sierra League rival Galena.

The varsity girls play at 5:15 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7.

Meanwhile, a non-league game for the Douglas boys against Lowry on Monday has been taken off the schedule.

The Douglas girls are 6-0 overall (2-0 league) after their 58-53 win on Tuesday at Reed. The Tigers’ boys are 2-2 overall (1-1 league) after their 60-49 loss against Reed.

Looking ahead, the Douglas boys travel to the Las Vegas Prep Championship on Dec. 26-30, while the girls play at Centennial’s Holiday Classic on Dec. 27-30 in Las Vegas. Douglas is scheduled to play at Wooster on Jan. 3 and then hosts Fallon for freshman, J.V. and varsity boys and girls games on Jan. 4.

Golf season passes on sale

The Carson Valley Golf Course is putting 2014 season passes on sale starting today.

Single season passes are available for $925 and $1,600 for couples. The prices are $1,400 for singles with a cart and $2,350 for couples with a cart. A dozen personalized golf balls for anyone who purchases a pass today.

Flag football sign-ups begin

Early sign-ups for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department’s Adult Flag Football League will open on Monday and continue through Jan. 10.

The cost is $465 per team and includes 10 regular season games and a post season elimination tournament. The fee will increase to $515 after Jan. 10. The registration deadline is Jan. 17 and games start on Jan. 26.

Games will be played on Sundays at Lampe Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call the parks and recreation office at 782-9828 or go to for information.

Elks Hoop Shoot

The Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks Hoop Shoot National Basketball Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14 at Meneley Elementary School.

The contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m., is open to boys and girls age 8-13 in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe. Each contestant will have 25 free throw shots at the hoop.

Registration will take place at the event.

Local winners will qualify for the district finals in Reno on Jan. 18 with the state finals to be held Feb. 1 in Hawthorne.
