DHS volleyball rummage sale Saturday

The Douglas High School volleyball program is holding its 50-Family Rummage Sale on Saturday from 7 a.m.-noon in the school’s small gym.

More than 50 families will offer a wide range of items, including an elliptical trainer, kitchen appliances, camping gear, sports and recreation equipment, clothing and furniture.

Funds raised will pay for new nets, out-of-town tournament expenses, player uniforms and development clinics.

Anyone who wants to contribute to the rummage sale may drop items off on Oct. 18, at the high school small gym from 2:30-4:30 p.m.


Whittell High School will hold a ceremony to dedicate its football field on Saturday.

A 12:30 ceremony will be held to dedicate Gary Lundergreen Athletic Field before Whittell’s homecoming game against Mineral County (Hawthorne).

Lundergreen, who passed away at age 78 on July 22, served as the Warriors’ first football coach from 1965 to 1988.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.

Adult volleyball sign-ups

Registration has opened for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department’s winter adult volleyball leagues.

Team sign-ups will be accepted on a first-come basis through Nov. 1. The fee is $200 per team until Oct. 28. The fee will be $225 per team if registered after that date.

Leagues include Women’s League on Monday nights, Coed C League on Wednesday and Coed B League on Thursday.

League play will begin the week of Nov. 11 and include a minimum of eight regular season games and a post season tourney.

Games will be played at the Carson Valley Middle School at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Youth officials needed

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting new officials and referees for its youth sports programs in flag football, volleyball and basketball.

Officials must be 16 or older with a flexible schedule nights and weekends. Previous officiating is preferred but not necessary.

WNC softball benefit

The Western Nevada College softball team is sponsoring a 5K run/walk at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3 at El Charro Avitia Mexican restaurant in Carson City.

A $30 entry fee for adults will include a dinner buffet and a race T-shirt. Children younger than 8 will be permitted to participate for free, while children 8 to 17 can enter for $15.

The run is a fundraiser for the team’s 2014 season.
