CVGS in need of coaches

The Carson Valley Girls Softball Association is in need of experienced coaches for its 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under and 16-and-under Hot Shots tournament teams.

Interested persons need to submit a letter of interest no later than Nov. 26. Letters may be emailed to joeymcninch@gmail.com or mail to CVGSA at P.O. Box 2142, Minden, NV., 89423.



Men’s golf club season ends

The Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club season came to an end on Sunday with a Four-Man Team, Cha Cha Cha event at the Carson Valley Golf Course.



The first-place team of Bruce Sanford, Joe Morrison, G. Paulson and Chuck Householder shot 109. Matt Budjako, Jim Korzeniewski, Charles Serafine and Jesus Rey carded a 118 to take second-place. Gerry Bing, Bill Centers, Brent Holderman and Paul Lockwood combined for third-place.

Ken Smiteski won the closest-to-the-pin competition.

Basketball coaches, officials needed

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting coaches and game officials for its youth and high school recreation basketball program.

Fifty volunteer coaches are needed. Head coach application and background check packets are due by Nov. 1.

Officials are also needed. Officials must be at least 16 years or older.

Registration remains open for players. Th e program is open to boys and girls from third grade through high school seniors on Saturdays during a season that extends from December through March.

Elks ‘Hoop Shoot’

The Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks “Hoop Shoot” National Basketball Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14, 2014 at C.C. Meneley Elementary School.

The contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m., is open to boys and girls age 8-13 in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.

Each contestant will have 25 free throw shots at the hoop. Registration will take place at the event.

Local winners will qualify for the district finals in Reno on Jan. 18 with the state finals to be held Feb. 1 in Hawthorne.
