Carson Valley Soccer Club tryouts set
Carson Valley Soccer Club fall tryouts will be held Monday through Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Carson Valley Middle School.
Tryouts are being held for 10 age group teams — eight girls and two boys — on the four days. The team tryout dates for the girls include: U10 Lightning (new team), coached by Jason Taylor, Tuesday through Thursday; U12 Fire, coached by Joel Sharpe, Monday and Wednesday; U12 Force, coached by Tim Plummer, Monday and Wednesday; U13 Blaze, coached by Kasey Compton, Tuesday and Thursday; U14 Rebels, coached by Brady Jens, Monday and Wednesday; U15 Redhawks, coached by Dragon Dmitri, Tuesday and Thursday; U17 Carson Valley United/Chaos, coached by Scott Foster, Tuesday; U11 Heat, coached by Joel Sharpe, Tuesday and Thursday.
Boys tryouts for the Garrett Schwartz-coached U12 Mustangs and Ricardo Diaz-coached U14 Scorpions are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday.

Valley Championships basketball July 30-31
The Valley Championships 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for players of all ages will be held July 30-31, presented by the MEFIYI Foundation and Douglas High School basketball.
The age group tournament is for youth and adults, male and female, and open to all teams from Nevada and Northern California.
Boys and girls divisions available for ages 8-12, 13-15 and high school (16-18), as well as men’s and women’s Divisions under and over 40 years of age. Players are invited to play in two or more divisions.
The cost is $80 per team with a maximum of four players, who will receive an event T-shirt. Proceeds will benefit Carson Valley youth basketball and sports programs.
Douglas conditioning dates announced
Voluntary summer preseason conditioning schedules have been announced for the Douglas High School cross country and girls tennis programs.
Cross country coach Jay Frey will be greeting runners for workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at times and locations to be announced. Prospective Douglas runners can contact Frey at https://goo.gl/BZRYnv or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for information.
Both the Douglas boys and girls teams qualified for the state championships in 2015. The boys finished second as a team and the girls finished third at the region meet last year.
Meanwhile, the defending region champion Douglas girls tennis team will meet twice a week for conditioning starting on July 5 at the high school courts. Coach Dan Hannah will direct sessions from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesdays for two weeks. Prospective team members will meet three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from July 19-Aug. 4 at the same times and at the high school. Players will meet Monday through Friday on the week of Aug. 8 before official practice begins on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. on the high school courts.
Players are asked to bring a racquet, water as well as appropriate clothing and shoes.

Youth flag football registration open
Registration is now being taken for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department-sponsored NFL Youth Flag Football program.
The league, for girls and boys in first through 12th grades, plays a season that kicks off on Aug. 1 and ends on Oct. 22. A player draft will be held the week of Aug. 1, scrimmages are set to start on Aug. 20 and regular season games begin on Aug. 27.
The cost of registration is $80 for all ages, $90 from July 16-27.
At least 40 volunteer coaches are needed for the program in the third-fourth grade, fifth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade and high school leagues. Douglas County Parks and Recreation coach’s application and background checks are required for those coaches.
