Carson Valley Fastpitch taking pre-registration

Carson Valley Fastpitch is now accepting pre-registration for its 2016 season.

Preregistration on the organization’s website — carsonvalleyfastpitch.com — is required and payment must be brought to one of the four 2016 season registration dates at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center:

■ Jan. 9 from noon-4 p.m.

■ Jan. 13 from 6-8 p.m.

■ Jan. 21 from 6-8 p.m.

■ Jan. 23 from noon-2 p.m.

For new players, parents need to provide a birth certificate copy.

Registration fees are $80 for players ages 4-6 and $85 for players 7-and-over, with a $160 maximum rate for a family. A $10 discount is available to players who have paid by Jan. 9. Coaches and sponsors are needed for the 2016 season.

Winter Sports Bash on Dec. 28-30

The MEFIYI Winter Sports Bash will be held on Dec. 28-30 at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.

Presented by the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department and MEFIYI, the camps are for students in first- through eighth-grades to provide instruction in basketball, volleyball, indoor tennis and speed-track. The schedule includes: 10 a.m.-noon for the basketball camp, 1-3 p.m. for the indoor tennis camp, noon-2 p.m. for the Northern Nevada Juniors Volleyball Club camp, 8:30-9:45 a.m. for sixth-though-eighth graders then 3-4:15 p.m. for first-through-fifth graders in the speed-track camp.

The camps cost $75 each and a parent must sign a permission form. Call 782-5500, ext. 1, for information.

Coaches still needed for youth basketball league season

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is still accepting sign-ups from players and coaches for its winter youth basketball program.

A boys league is offered for players in third through 12th grades and a coed league for third through 12th graders. Leagues will be organized for third-fourth grades, fifth-sixth grades, seventh-eighth grades and high school coed.

The season is scheduled to begin in January and continue until March with games at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Players will be assigned to teams through a draft system.

The cost is $90.

Winter wilderness survival

workshop scheduled Jan. 9

Members of the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team will instruct a winter wilderness survival workshop on Jan. 9 from 10 a.m.-noon at Sorensen’s Resort in Hope Valley.

Participants will be guided through an easy snowshoe and cross-country ski trek. Guides will cover details, such as planning, preparation, proper dress, equipment, emergency shelters and more. Dress for the elements.
