Carson Valley Babe Ruth hosts sign-ups
Carson Valley Babe Ruth will hold sign-ups for its fall season program starting on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Line Drive U, 2577 Nowlin Rd. Ste 101.
Carson Valley in years past has fielded one fall ball team during a season that extends into November, weather allowing. Double headers are typically played on Saturdays, with practices on Tuesday and Thursdays. The cost of the program depends on whether a player is returning and already has a jersey.

Alta Alpina Cycling Club
The Alta Alpina Cycling Club will hold its final time trial of the season on Thursday at Fredericksburg.
The time trial will begin at 6:15 p.m. The event was moved from Diamond Valley.
Ranchos Fire Rescue Golf Classic Sept. 7
The inaugural Ranchos Fire Rescue Golf Classic is set for Sept. 7 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
Tournament proceeds help provide the department equipment and training materials. Among the featured attractions will be tee prizes, a barbecue and awards ceremony, raffle prizes as well as closest-to-the-hole prizes. The tournament tee time is 8:30 a.m.
Ranchos Fire Rescue hopes to attract more than 100 golfers and volunteers to support its community service.

Junior golf instruction set
Youngsters 5 to 17 years of age will have an opportunity to learn how to play golf or to improve their skills through two separate programs being offered by the Carson Valley Golf Course and Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department.
Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual Introduction to Junior Golf clinic on Sept. 7 with three separate age group sessions scheduled to start at noon at the Carson Valley Golf Course. The cost of the clinic is $20. Call parks and recreation at 782-9828 for information or to register.
As a follow-up to the clinic, the Carson Valley Golf Course is beginning its fall junior program, a six-week course that will offer juniors instruction. Participants will have a choice of attending 50-minute sessions from 4-5 p.m. on either Tuesday or Friday. The cost is $130 for the program. Equipment is provided when needed.

Youth flag football league
The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registration for the NFL Youth Flag Football League until team rosters are full. The league helps teach boys and girls the fundamentals of football, good sportsmanship and teamwork in a non-contact fashion.
Since every player is eligible to receive or carry the ball, any player on a team could score on any play.
Players receive a reversible NFL Flag jersey, mouthpiece and individual award. All games will be played on Saturdays at Stodick Park. Participants will be divided into four age groups: 5-6 coed, 7-8 coed, 9-11 coed and 12-14 coed. Players must be at least 6 and not 15 by Sept. 1.
Volunteer coaches are also needed for the league as are referees, ages 16 and older.

Girls softball association seeking board members
The Carson Valley Girls Softball Association is seeking candidates for board positions.
A meeting to elect members for these positions is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Gardnerville Volunteer Fire Station, 1255 Douglas Ave.

The inaugural Carson Valley Mud Run is set for Sept. 21 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
The 5-mile obstacle course/endurance race is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
The registration fee is $40. The event is being held to benefit local military families.
Couples golf offered at Carson Valley Golf Course
Registration is now open for the Carson Valley Golf Course couples league. The league will play Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and offer an opportunity to enjoy some cool evening golf for nine holes of golf, cart, dinner after golf and $5 prize fund. The cost is $30 per player.

Kirkwood to hold 5K, 10K Adventure Trail Run
A season pass will be on the line on Aug. 31 when the 33rd annual Kirkwood 5K/10K Adventure Trail Run is held. There will be a one-mile and half-mile run for children at 9 a.m. The 5K and 10K will start after the fun run.

Race-day registration opens at 8 a.m. in the Kirkwood Main Lodge and is $40 and comes with a chance to win a ski pass. The children’s run costs $10 and does not include a shirt or chance to win the ski pass.
