Douglas High’s Kelsey Carlson and Shelby Casaus picked up another win Monday to advance to the Northern 4A Region Tournament girls doubles quarterfinals Monday in Reno.

Carlson and Casaus, the No. 11 seeded team, defeated Bishop Manogue’s No. 6 seeded Gabby Kapitz and Madeline Leppla 6-4, 6-4 during their second-round match at Manogue. The Douglas duo now advances to a quarterfinal meeting today against Reno’s No. 3 seeded team of Jazlynn Parker and Jillian Rovetti.

Carlson and Casaus won their opener last Wednesday 6-0, 6-0. Natalie Smith and Angelina Stein lost their first-round match 6-3, 6-3. Douglas sisters Kylie and Kari Coziahr lost to Reno’s Parker and Rovetti 6-3, 6-0.

A winter storm on Saturday forced most of the tournament’s schedule to be postponed until this week at Manogue.

On the boys side, Dylan Berke and Josh Brown were knocked out with second-round losses on Saturday. Glenn Bydalek of Bishop Manogue rallied from one set down to defeat Berke 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Galena’s C.J. Hess bested Brown 6-0, 6-1.

The 4A state tournament starts on Thursday at Caughlin Athletic Club in Reno.
