Skiing: Tigers take 4th at Sierra at Tahoe
The Douglas High ski team continued to improve during its Tahoe Basin League race at Sierra at Tahoe Wednesday, taking fourth overall.
“It was beautiful weather, but due to warm weather the course was a bit hard and icy,” Douglas coach David Blum said. “Our racers overcame though.”
In the girls’ race, Cara Dunkelman took 18th, freshman Elissa Galvez took 24th, Lauren Babbitt placed 26th, Kelsey Lalonde took 31st and Maddy Emery finished 39th.
Grant Denny led the Tiger boys, taking seventh out of 77 racers. Freshman Grant Dunkelman took 19th and Brock Crawford took 32nd.
Nolan Lackey took 47th, Zac Pelcher took 51st in his first varsity race, Wyatt Denny took 58th and Cody Carter finished 64th.
In the JV race, Ryan Kochen took 22nd in his first high school race and is expected to make the move up to varsity in the coming weeks, as will Jason Groffman, who took 41st.
“Each race brings our experience and confidence level up,” Blum said. “Our racers have become a very cohesive, focused and determined group.
“I also want to give a special thanks to all the parents and grandparents to come out today and support the team.”
Douglas next races at Heavenly’s World Cup run on Feb. 3 around 9:30 a.m.
