Skiing: Tigers take 4th at Alpine race
The Douglas High ski team took another big step forward Tuesday afternoon at Alpine Meadows, inching up a spot in the overall team standings with a fourth-place finish at the Tahoe Basin League slalom race.
The boys’ team took fourth and the girls’ team took sixth, each moving up a notch in the standings.
In the boys’ race, Grant Denny took 14th out of 82 racers while Wyatt Denny was 15th.
Freshman Grant Dunkelman missed a gate on his first run, hiked back up to properly clear it and continued on to take 24th despite the setback.
Roy Reagan was 28th and Cody Carter took 34th.
In the girls’ race, Cara Dunkelman took 20th, Lauren Babbitt took 21st and Rachel Babbitt was 28th.
“It was a successful effort,” Douglas coach David Blum said. “We are moving right along. Each outing is giving our racers more experience and confidence in their already strong racing skills.”
Blum also noted the performances of Sam Taylor and Jason Groffman in the JV race.
“Our JV squad is also moving forward very quickly, and our varsity skiers are improving with every race. It’s a pleasure to be a part of this team.”
