6 Tigers qualify for region play
Two singles players and two doubles teams will represent Douglas High next week when the Northern 4A region individual boys tennis tournament is held in Reno.
Dylan Berke and Josh Brown are set for the singles bracket, while the teams of Kindel Isham-Spencer Trivitt and Zach Unger-Range Chapman have qualified for doubles at the region tournament Oct. 12-15 at Bishop Manogue High and Caughlin Athletic Club.
Douglas closed out its regular season last Thursday with an 11-7 loss to arch rival Carson in the state capital. The Tigers finished their season with a 4-7 record for ninth-place in the conference standings, one position away from qualifying for the region team playoffs.
Carson (9-2) and Douglas were tied 3-3 after one round of their match, however, the Senators won eight of the last 12 matchups to pull out the team victory. The Senators won each of the nine doubles sets.
Berke and Brown were perfect in their three singles sets to lead the Tigers. Berke improved his season record to 18-6 and Brown improved to 16-7.
Jarod Pieller also picked up a 6-3 win in his first-round singles set.
Sophomore Samuel Brown and freshman Luke Cochran were close in their 6-4 second-round doubles loss.
Carson’s No. 1 doubles team of Saarem Taylor and Artz Jayson swept three straight sets to push their season record to 25-1.
