Sierra Lutheran tops Sacramento
The Falcons of Sierra Lutheran High School weren’t exactly ideal hosts to their sister school, Sacramento Lutheran High School over the weekend.
Utilizing a full-court press and a stick man-to-man defense, the Falcons jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, although the margin was still only 32-20 entering the final period.
Sierra Lutheran’s depth (The Falcons had 10 players see nearly equal playing time) then started to wear down the visiting Panthers as the host team took the fourth quarter by a 22-5 score to emerge with a 54-25 win.
Cameron Hart was the leading scorer for the Falcons with 15, but he received balanced scoring support from all of his teammates.
Nathan Bender, Andrew Zaninovich and Trent Unruh all tallied eight points and Aaron Bender chipped in an additional six.
It appears as if the Falcons have lost senior Josh Renner (knee surgery) for the rest of the season, but hope to have 6-3 sophomore post Lane Pawloski (oral surgery) back after the holidays when they begin league play with games against Smith Valley and Coleville.
