Sierra Lutheran boys split opening games

Staff Reports

The Sierra Lutheran High boys basketball team opened their season with a loss to Gabbs and followed with a win against the Smith Valley junior varsity team.

In the opener, Gabbs was able to take advantage of the Falcons’ first-game jitters and jumped out to an early lead.

Sierra Lutheran also ran into some foul trouble and Gabbs took a 20-point lead into halftime.

“Once we settled down and overcame our nerves, we played them pretty evenly in the second half,” coach Norm Brauer said.

The final score was 62-39. Junior Cameron Hart led Sierra Lutheran with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

Tuesday, the Falcons traveled to Smith Valley and picked up a 35-30 victory over the Bulldogs junior varsity squad.

Hart again led the Falcons with 15 points and junior guard Elliott McPeek added 11.

The Lady Falcons also opened up the season with a split, losing their opener and winning at Smith Valley.
