Senior Games coming to Carson Valley

Douglas County Senior Center will host the Fifth Annual Northern Nevada Senior Games, Sept. 7-14, at various locations in Douglas County.

The motto of the event is “Fitness For The Fun Of It” for the senior community.

The Senior Games are open to men and women 50 years old and older, regardless of state of residence.

Age groups will be offered in 5-year increments. For team sports, the age of the youngest player will determine the age group for the team.

The registration fee is $15 per athlete, with an additional $20 required to participate in golf. The registration fee allows each participant to enter all sports for the remainder of the Senior Games schedule.

Top finishers will be awarded Olympic-style medals for first, second and third place. All entrants are invited to participate in the Vestin Nevada Senior Games State Championships in Las Vegas.

The Douglas County schedule includes: Sept. 7, basketball and weightlifting; Sept. 8, track and field; Sept. 9, darts; Sept. 10, bowling; Sept. 11, billiards (8-ball); Sept. 12, golf, bunco; Sept. 14, tennis. road race, horseshoes and closing barbecue.
