Sapp takes 4th consecutive race
The Douglas High ski team came in third at the Tahoe Basin Ski League meet at Alpine Meadows last week, taking advantage of another strong outing from senior Holden Sapp.
Sapp won for the fourth-consecutive time, clocking a 1:11.70 in the giant slalom event.
“He’s been first in the league this entire season,” Douglas coach Ginny DeRosa said. “He’s really been doing well.”
Sapp was anchored by a strong showing from the rest of the boys’ team, led by Anton Anger, who recently moved to Douglas from the East Coast.
Anger timed out at 1:18.87 to take 12th in the race and he was followed closely by freshman Brian Sergott, who finished with a time of 1:19.24.
Senior Travis Johnson had a time of 1:24.36 and he was followed by David Coats at 1:26.07. Morgan Hall had a time of 1:26.63 and Brady Haws came in at 1:27.93 to round out the Tigers’ day in the boys’ race.
On the girls’ side, senior Lauren Martin was Douglas’ top finisher, finishing 16th in 1:27.92. Avery Carrig finished in 1:29.21 and senior Michelle Nenzel finished in 1:32.45.
“Michelle has been showing a lot of improvement this season, and Thursday’s race just went to prove that,” DeRosa said.
Sophomore Alicia Dreyer finished in 1:33.59 and Jennifer Stice rounded out the girls’ scoring with 1:37.52.
“It’s a tough league and the team has been doing very well,” DeRosa said. “This is a great group to work with and they practice very hard on the mountain. They’re all very devoted to the sport and very devoted to the team.”
