‘Rocket’ riding the Redline
Blake Ritter smiled as he picked up his “favorite” trophy, which nearly stands as tall as he is.
Even though he only turned 6 three weeks ago, the Carson Valley BMX racer already has a collection of trophies and medals that most adults would envy.
And Ritter — who is fondly known as “Rocket” — will be looking for more this weekend when he competes at the Redline Cup Finals West at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.
This will represent a step up to a new age group for young “Rocket,” who earned that “favorite” trophy on Aug. 30-Sept. 1 when he rode his SE Racing Mini PK Ripper to a second-place in the 5-and-under age group at the Black Jack Nationals Western Division Finals in Reno.
He will ride in the 6-year-old intermediates division this weekend.
“This is pretty prestigious,” said BJ Ritter, Blake’s father. “It’s pretty heavy competition — everyone had to qualify — so he’s going to have his work cut out for him.”
This is pretty good progress for Blake, who learned to race at age 3 at James Lee Park in Indian Hills and honed his skill at the Carson City BMX facility. His favorite tracks include South Lake Tahoe, Reno Big Horn BMX, Fernley and Carson City.
Blake rides for the SE Racing Terror Squad, Forever Two Wheels and Speed Technologies, according to his father.
