Here is a breakdown on some Carson Valley athletes who have graduated from high school and now compete in college:


DILLON SPATES — Waldorf College (Iowa), 2011 Douglas High School graduate: Spates placed fourth in his 141-pound weight class with a 5-2 record last Saturday for Waldorf in its season opening action at the Kaye Young Open in Mason City, Iowa. He reached the semifinals before losing.


BECKY GRABOW — University of Pacific, Douglas County product and 2012 Sierra Lutheran High School graduate: Grabow was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team this week (3.91 GPA). She also ran 23:49 for 6 kilometers to finish 66th last Saturday at the WCC Championships in Malibu, Calif. The Tigers run again on Nov. 15 at the NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento,.

WADE MEDDLES — Eastern Kentucky University, 2010 Sierra Luthern graduate: Meddles placed fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships men’s race, running a time of 24:37 for 8 kilometers. Eastern Kentucky’s men swept the top four places en route to their eighth straight conference title.


BETHANY WURSTER — University of Nevada, Reno, 2011 Douglas graduate: Wurster, a junior, shot 151 (75-76) to finish tied for 48th for the University of Nevada women’s golf team in the 17-team Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 27-29 at Stallion Mountain Golf Club.. The Wolf Pack finished tied for 12th as a team (the scheduled second round was canceled due to high winds). The tournament wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule for the Wolf Pack. Nevada will return to action Feb. 24 at the UC Irvine Invite.


CONNOR GRETH — University of Montana Western, 2013 Douglas graduate: Greth has scored 18 points, including 4-for-8 in field goal attempts, with a career-best 47-yarder against Dickinson State on Sept. 14, and 6-for-6 in PAT conversion kicks. Montana Western ends its season on Nov. 16 with a home game against Eastern Oregon in Dillon, Mont.


ERIN ALLISON — Marymount University (Arlington, Va.), 2011 Douglas graduate: Allison had 20 kills and 17 digs Tuesday in a 3-2 win over St. Mary’s (Maryland) to end the regular season. She ranks seventh in the Capital Athletic Conference in kills this season.

EMILY GARCIA — Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), 2011 Douglas graduate: The junior middle blocker had 6 kills on Tuesday in Bentley’s 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference win at Saint Anselm.

CHRISTINE DuPUIS — University of Massachusetts-Boston, 2010 Douglas graduate: The junior 5-foot-8 defensive specialist had 11 digs last Saturday in a 3-1 upset win against Roger Williams (27-3 and ranked No. 26 in AVCA National Coaches Poll). UMass-Boston is 18-15 this season.
