Tigers sweep two from Hug
Thirteen players contributed to a 27-hit attack in game one of a doubleheader to put the Douglas High softball team on track to a sweep at home against Hug on Saturday.
Douglas (2-1 conference, 4-4-1 overall) won both ends of the Northern Division I twin-bill against Hug (0-3, 0-4) by scores of 24-2 and 16-0.
Freshman Kettja Bennett hit 4-for-4 with four runs scored and one RBI. Casey Peck went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI, Corryne Diaz 3-for-4 with six RBI, Madison Rodgers 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI, while Maxie Brixey went 2-for-2 with four runs scored. Allison Meyer, Mackenzie Peters, Kylie Swan and Shaena Robinson all hit 2-for-2 and Brooklyn Davis 2-for-3.
Madison Peters pitched two innings and Bennett worked the final three. Bennett had seven strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, Meyer and Robinson slugged home runs to lead the Tigers’ 13-hit attack against the Hawks.
Robinson was 2-for-3 with four RBI and Meyer 2-for-4 and also had a triple to go with two RBI. Davis also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Amanda Hoffman hit 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI. Chloie Pratt hit 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Peters struck out nine of the 10 batters she faced over three innings and Bennett allowed one hit as she pitched the final two innings. Neither pitcher issued a walk and Peters allowed only one base runner on a hit batsman.
