Tigers, Senators grapple tonight
An improved Douglas High wrestling team will face a formidable challenge tonight when it visits reigning Sierra League champion Carson for a dual meet in the state capital.
Douglas, 2-1 in league dual meets this season, is facing a Carson squad that is 3-0 and riding a streak of 28 straight league victories.
The meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Morse Burley Gymnasium in Carson City.
Douglas had a respectable performance this past weekend at the Vaquero Classic in Fernley, highlighted when freshman Ryland DeSomber (195 pounds) and senior heavyweight Ian Kendrick reached the medal podium with their sixth-place finishes.
Other Douglas wrestlers who compiled winning records in the tournament were Ryan Adams (120), Isaiah Schat (152 pounds), Garret Seward (160) and Josh Jensen (170), who all went 3-2 and finished one win away from advancing to the tournament medal round.
A total of 33 teams competed in the tournament on Friday and Saturday at Fernley High School.
Carson finished third in the tournament, behind Lowry and Spanish Springs, and had four silver medal winning individuals: Nicholas Lani (138), Brady O’Keefe (145), Kyle Sharp (132) and Brady Rivera (182).
The Tigers and Senators met earlier this season in the championship round of Carson’s Capital Duals. Carson won that meet, 72-12.
