Tigers return to action
January 2, 2014
After facing high level tournament competition last week in Las Vegas, the Douglas High boys and girls basketball teams are back in Northern Nevada to play Friday at Wooster and Saturday at home against Fallon.
All six of the Douglas girls and boys teams will play Fallon in a series of games starting at 10 a.m. at Randy Green Court. Though the games are non-league — Fallon now plays Division I-A — the two schools are longtime rivals.
The occasion is special since all proceeds go to benefit the Douglas girls and boys programs. This also marks the first time in recent memory that all Douglas freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams are playing together on the same day.
"I can't ever remember doing this," Douglas coach Werner Christen said. "If you're a basketball junkie, this is a perfect day."
It all begins with the freshman girls at 10 a.m., followed by frosh boys at 11:45 a.m., JV girls at 1:30 p.m., JV boys at 3:30, varsity girls at 5 p.m. and varsity boys at 6:45 p.m.
In between, the program will include raffle prizes, highlighted by a $200 gift basket, shooting contests and a snack bar.

"It should be a fun night overall," Christen said.
By the way, the Douglas girls (9-4 overall, 3-0 league) are looking for a measure of redemption after losing twice last season to the Greenwave.
"We're looking forward to playing them," said Christen, whose squad went 1-4 last weekend during the Las Vegas Holiday Classic. "Anne Smith is a great coach and we know they they're going to come out and play hard."
Fallon's girls (currently 3-6) and boys (2-4) teams both face important Northern Division I-A league tests tonight at Truckee.
The Tigers are ready to resume their league schedule tonight when the girls face Wooster (2-6, 0-2) at 5:15 p.m., followed by the Douglas (4-5, 1-2) and Wooster (2-9, 0-2) boys at 7.
Douglas, 2-2 last weekend at the Las Vegas Prep Championship, is looking to snap a two-game losing streak in league play.
