Tigers rally past McQueen
Not a lot has changed since last November for the Douglas and McQueen high school volleyball teams.
Douglas dropped the first set and then came back to ring up a 3-1 victory Tuesday night in a Northern 4A cross-over match against McQueen at John “Slug” Flynn Gym in Reno.
Douglas (1-0 conference, 11-1 overall) won by scores of 17-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 in a rematch of its opening-round region tournament match against McQueen in the same gym last year.
Four players reached double digits in kills to lead the Douglas attack, including Isabelle Peterson with 13, Anna Bertolone 12, Sierra Sullivan 11 and Talyn Jackson 10.
Jackson finished with a triple double, as the junior setter handed out 22 assists to go with 13 digs and five service aces.
Raychel Allen led the defense with 21 digs, while Peterson added 11. Hailey Hughes put down four blocks and Peterson two.
Madison Rozier also had 12 assists.
The Tigers were consistent at the service line with only four errors (95.5 percent). They finished with 10 aces as a team.
Douglas returns to action Tuesday against Spanish Springs in Sparks. The Tigers absorbed their only loss of the season this past Saturday against McQueen by a 2-1 score at the High Sierra Classic.
