Tigers lose at Damonte

A two-run fifth inning rally lifted Damonte Ranch past Douglas, 7-6, Tuesday afternoon in the Northern Division I conference opener for both teams in Reno.

Damonte Ranch, last year’s conference regular season champion, improved its overall record to 3-3 (including one-run losses against Reno and Reed).

Douglas dropped to 1-5 coming into a home game against Damonte Ranch on Thursday. The Tigers are scheduled to host Galena at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Haden Keller delivered two hits and two RBI while Jayden Foster contributed a pair of hits for Douglas. Damonte Ranch enjoyed an 11-6 advantage in the hits column.

Douglas scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to tie the score, 5-5, only to see the Mustangs answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Damonte Ranch took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Douglas answered with three runs in the top of the second to tie the score. Damonte Ranch pushed across two runs in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead.

Hunter Simpson started on the mound and worked five innings for the Tigers.

Note: Douglas was 1-4 in the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament, including a 12-8 loss Saturday against Spanish Springs in a game played at Carson High’s Ron McNutt Field.
