The Douglas High girls soccer team begins what its hopes to be an extended postseason journey on Monday night at home against McQueen in the first-round of the Division I Northern Region Tournament.
The Sierra League champion Tigers (13-1-2) face the High Desert League’s No. 4 seeded Lancers (6-8-2). The winner advances to the tournament semifinals on Wednesday — a 6 p.m. match against the winner between Spanish Springs (9-3-4) and Galena (10-3-3) at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno.
The tournament championship game is scheduled for noon on Saturday at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno. The two finalists will be rewarded with berths in the NIAA state tournament on Nov. 15-16 at Carson High School.
Looking back at the regular season, Douglas posted a 7-1 win at McQueen on Oct. 15. The Tigers coming off a 1-0 regular season-ending victory Tuesday at home against rival Carson. The game was decided in the 45th minute when Kassidy Freitas scored on a free kick.
In other opening round contests on Monday, Reno (12-3-1) hosts Damonte Ranch (5-7-4) at 2:30 p.m. and Carson (10-2-4) hosts Reed (8-4-4) at 6 p.m. Galena travels to Spanish Springs for a 6 p.m. contest.
