Tigers fall to league-leading Manogue
A fast start Tuesday night put Bishop Manogue on track to defeat Douglas 3-1 in a matchup between Sierra League volleyball rivals in Reno.
Manogue (22-3 overall, 10-0 league) won by scores of 25-8, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20.
Douglas (12-6, 6-3) came into the night tied for second-place with Carson and Damonte Ranch in the league standings.
Alex Demaranville provided a highlight for Douglas with 24 digs. Isabelle Peterson had 10 kills, Aubrey Caires eight and Ashley Campagna seven to lead the Tigers at the net, while Talyn Jackson contributed 23 assists and five blocks.
Manogue had some motivation coming into the match, since the Miners saw their 2014 season end with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Douglas in the Northern Division I Region Tournament semifinals. Manogue was the Sierra League champion, however, Douglas went on to win the region tournament championship.
This is part of a challenging stretch on the schedule in which the Tigers face Manogue, Damonte Ranch on Thursday (results were unavailable at press time) and visit arch rival Carson on Tuesday.
Douglas lost in two games at Manogue, 25-14 and 25-6. Madison Rogers and Sierra Sullivan contributed three kills each, while Peyton Craig and Sierra Franklin added two each. Robyne Foster had seven assists and four digs, while Erika Leitenbauer led the defense with five digs.
Douglas (7-3) dropped a 2-1 decision at Manogue. The Miners won by game scores of 25-20, 13-25, 15-12.
