Tigers fall short at Galena
A three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Galena High to a 12-9 Northern Division I baseball victory against Douglas on Tuesday afternoon in Reno.
Haydn Brown hit 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead Douglas (1-3 league, 2-7 overall) offensively in a back-and-forth game that saw both teams rally back to tie the score.
Brown drove in two runs with a double down the right field line to spark a five-run first inning when Douglas took a 5-0 lead. Galena (3-1, 5-3) answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and then scored twice in the second inning to tie the score at 6-6. The Grizzlies added three more runs in the third to take a 9-6 lead.
The Tigers scored once in the fourth inning and then tied the score at 9-all in the fifth on Isaiah Schat’s two-run double, only to see Galena surge back on top in the sixth.
Spencer Trivitt, Kindel Isham and Schat collected two hits each for the Tigers, who were 7-5 winners over Galena in the opener of the two-game series Saturday in Minden. Schat and Trivitt both drove in three runs and Trivitt also hit a double.
The Tigers enjoyed a 10-9 advantage in the hits column, however, they left 11 runners stranded on the bases.
Austin Wickham delivered two hits and Parker Kittilsen three RBI to lead the Grizzlies. Turner Gustafson pitched the final two innings to earn credit for the win.
Douglas hosts Bishop Manogue Thursday in a 3:45 p.m. conference contest.
