Tigers cruise to win at Wooster
Kylie Swan delivered three hits and three RBI Thursday afternoon to put the Douglas High softball team on track to a 12-2 Northern Division I victory on Thursday afternoon against Wooster in Reno.
Douglas (6-1 conference, 9-3 overall) banged out 10 hits, six of which went for extra bases in a game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
This game was a good tuneup for the Tigers before their doubleheader at home Saturday against undefeated Reed.
“Everybody contributed in the win,” Douglas coach Rob Parks said. “We played well today but we will need to play better when we play Reed Saturday if we are going to pick up some wins. I am looking forward to playing Reed to see where we stand against the top team in the North these past few years. This will be a good test.”
Kali Sargent hit a solo home run over the left center field fence, Allison Meyer hit a two-run triple in the first inning, while Leonna Mortimer, Layne Waggoner, Makayla Shaver and Nicole Dunn doubled for the Tigers.
Mackenzie Brixey and Swan hit singles in the first inning and both scored on Meyer’s triple. Sargent followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Meyer home to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Bowman pitched a complete game to earn credit for the win. The left-hander allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked two.
Note: Douglas High School is hosting the Nicole Snyder Memorial Softball Tournament Friday and Saturday at Stodick Park. The tournament is open to all Division I junior varisyt teams and all Division I-A, III and IV varsity teams.
