Team Douglas sweeps past Galena

Credit this one to an all-around team effort.

When Douglas High volleyball coach Suzi Townsell decided on a player of the match for Thursday night, she named the entire team swept to a 3-0 win at Galena.

“With awesome communication, serving, attacking, and defense, Douglas Volleyball created an impressive win,” Townsell noted on the MaxPreps website.

Douglas (12-5 overall, 6-2 league) won by game scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-15 to remain tied for third-place with Carson in the Sierra League standings. Galena is now 4-5 in league, 9-16 overall.

Seven different players contributed kills for Douglas, led by eight from Aubrey Caires (.533 kill percentage) and Isabelle Peterson (.727) while Johnnie Saletti added seven (.778).

Saletti also contributed 17 points, including three aces, Alex Demaranville nine (three aces) and Talyn Jackson nine (four aces).

Peterson had eight digs, while Demaranville and Jackson added seven each to lead the defense. Jackson dished out 18 assists and Maddi Rozier seven.

Douglas travels to Reno on Tuesday to take on Bishop Manogue, which maintained its hold on first-place in the Sierra League Thursday with a 3-1 victory at Damonte Ranch.


Douglas defeated Galena 25-23, 16-25, 15-6. Sierra Sullivan was the team leader in kills with seven, Madison Rodgers had four kills, Scarlett Harmon two, Mikayla Garrison two, while Katie Davidson, Peyton Craig and Caitlyn Costa added one each.

Amanda Geraldo was credited with 10 assists and Robyne Foster seven. Erika Leitenbauer had seven digs, Sullivan four and Craig three.


Galena defeated Douglas in three games, 25-19, 18-25, 17-15. Douglas now has a 7-2 season record.
