Sierra Lutheran girls defeat Virginia City

Sierra Lutheran High’s varsity girls basketball team didn’t disappoint Friday night when it traveled up to Virginia City.

The Falcons played amazing defense during the first half, and by halftime, they were up 23-8. They stumbled a little in the second half when the VC Muckers perked up, but the Falcons went on to win the game 35-19.

Brynna Hansen had eight rebounds (five offensive and three defensive). Grace Bonafede scored nine points, five of which came on free throws, and she grabbed seven rebounds. Clare Davison also had nine points and six steals.

Sierra made it two in a row Tuesday with a 21-20 overtime win at Coleville. Bonafede had nine points and 17 rebounds for the Falcons

Sierra also played with aggression Saturday in a 33-23 loss against Pyramid Lake. Jee Benton scored six points. Elaina Marchegger had eight rebounds, three steals, and six points. Hansen had 11 rebounds and eight steals. Bonafede had nine rebounds.

The varsity boys absorbed two tough losses against Virginia City, 37-27, and Pyramid Lake, 61-51. Zane Warkentin had 18 points amd Nathan Waite 15 on Saturday. Cameron Drudge had five rebounds and five steals. Bret Walker had 11 rebounds.

The JV boys fought for a 43-25 win at Virginia City. Joseph Gallo had 12 points, Kyman Berger seven and Logan Schinzing eight.

Against Pyramid Lake, they played with teamwork and control in a 35-17 win. Peyton Hedwall had 10 points and eight rebounds. Kyman Berger had a 3-pointer. Austin Stone had four offensive rebounds. Thomas Mellum had five points and six steals.

Sierra’s varsity boys won 62-27 Tuesday at Coleville.
