Pyle, Brooks lead Douglas golf team
Shane Pyle and Colin Brooks led the Douglas High boys golf team to sixth-place in its Silver Flight Friday at the Pahrump Valley Invitational at Mountain Falls Golf Club.
Douglas finished with a four-player team score of 686, good for sixth in its flight and 11th overall. The Tigers shot 338 Friday.
Pyle and Brooks shot respective scores of 160 and 162 to finish 29th and 33rd overall on the individual leaderboard. Both shot opening-round scores of 78 — Pyle shot 37 on the back nine and Brooks 38 — to qualify for the Gold Flight on Friday.
Zander Ghan finished third in the Maroon Flight at 175, highlighted by his season-best 83 on Friday. The senior shot an opening round score of 92 (50-42).
Jaden Wass also shot 189 and Jarrod Ender 201 for the Tigers.
Whittell finished 18th with a score of 772. Steven Beelar shot 174 (85-89) to lead the Warriors. The two Douglas County schools are the only Northern Nevada representatives in a tournament that drew teams from Arizona, Oregon, California and Nevada.
Mountain Falls will host the NIAA State Championships next month.
