Miners top Tigers in tennis playoffs
The Douglas High girls tennis team came up on the short end of a 12-6 against Bishop Manogue Thursday afternoon in the Northern 4A Region Tournament semifinals in Reno.
Manogue’s No. 1 doubles team of Halle Turek and Rose Berry won each of their three sets to lead the way as Manogue (12-1 overall) advanced to the region finals against Reno on Friday.
Douglas ended its season with a 9-4 team record. The Tigers have three singles players and three doubles teams entered in the individual region tournament, which begins Wednesday at Manogue.
“We certainly gave it a good try,” coach Dan Hannah noted. “It was a lot to ask. Manogue is quite a good team this year.”
Douglas won five doubles sets and added one win from Maggie Rich in singles.
