Hillman, Cottrill shine for Douglas ski team

Douglas High School’s Tyler Cottrill and Danner Hillman finished among the eight finalists in the varsity boys competition Wednesday during a Tahoe Basin Ski League dual slalom at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Cottrill, a senior, and Hillman, a freshman, scored 48 points each to help Douglas take fourth in the boys team race and third in the combined standings.

Grant Dunkelman, Bryan Harris, Wesley Alexander, Bradley Loshbough, Jon Pelcher, Logan Lalonde, Cottrill and Hillman all qualified for the round-of-32 duals. Dunkelman advanced to the round-of-16, while Cottrill and Hillman made it to the round-of-8.

Every point was important, since the Tigers finished with 256 points in the combined standings to edge Truckee and Whittell for third-place.

In the boys scoring, Douglas finished 53 points behind North Tahoe in first-place and 21 points behind South Tahoe in second-place.

Douglas also had a strong showing in the girls race, where six of the eight team members qualified for the round-of-32: Tara Cottrill, Kate Hill, Carolyn Wilber, Katya Koepsel, Rachel Murphey and Mary Weyland.

Douglas had a highlight in the girls JV race, where Madison Jordan and Audrey Muller swept the top two places.

In the boys JV race, Zach Ingrey advanced to the round-of- 8 to for the Tigers. Sam Wilson, Logan Kyle and Sam Brees also qualified for the round-of-16.
