Hillman, Cottrill lead Tigers to second-place

Boys: 1, Truckee 159, 2, South Tahoe 130, 3, Douglas 122, 4, Whittell 113, 5, Carson 51, 6, Incline and North Tahoe 40.

Danner Hillman and Tara Cottrill posted top-four finishes and the Douglas High alpine squad finished second overall Tuesday during a Tahoe Basin Ski League dual slalom at Heavenly Ski Resort.

Hillman placed second in the boys competition and Cottrill fourth.

Hillman advanced to the final round before he lost out against Truckee’s Max Wingard. Hillman got past Truckee’s Noah Williams in the semifinals.

Sean Dunkelman and Bryan Harris also advanced to the Round of 16 for the Douglas boys. Wesly Alexander, Zach Ingrey, Niccoli Sloan and Richard Stock reached the Round of 32.

In the girls bracket, Cottrill bested teammate Mary Weyland in the Round of 16, then lost to South Tahoe’s Tatum Whatford in the semifinals and to Whittell’s Madison Idso in the third-place race.

The Tigers’ Emily Hillman, Katya Koepsel and Mary Weyland were Round of 16 qualifiers, while Peri Buck, Abby Jens and Maya Smith advanced to the Round of 32.

Note: Kaehler Angelo placed seventh in the league JV boys slalom race held on Jan. 14 at Alpine Meadows.
