Hickam qualifies for state tourney

Douglas High freshman Lauren Hickam captured eighth-place with a score of 173 this week at the Northern Division I Region Girls Golf Tournament in Reno.

Hickam shot rounds of 82 and 91 to earn her top-10 finish for rounds played on Monday over the 5,652-yard, par-72 Hidden Valley Country Club layout and Tuesday over the 5,535-yard, par-72 the Somersett Country Club.

In the process, Hickam earned an invitation to the NIAA Division I State Tournament Wednesday and Thursday on the Primm Valley Resorts Lakes Course in Primm.

Meanwhile, Douglas finished fifth as a team with a total of 770 (386-384). McQueen used a big performance at Somersett (342) to come from behind and win the championship by a 698-730 margin over Spanish Springs. Bishop Manogue finished third (741) and Reno fourth (749).

Emma Sperry tied for 13th with her 183 (88-95), Mari Pimental tied for 15th at 185 (95-90) and Amanda Davidson finished 35th at 229 (121-108). Hunter Langford also shot 242 (121-121) and Sydney Cotton shot 294 (123-171) for Douglas.
