Hickam, Pimental set pace for Tigers
Lauren Hickam and Mari Pimental fought through some difficult conditions on Wednesday to card respective scores of 84 and 86 as the Douglas High girls golf team took second-place in Sierra League match play at Sierra Sage Golf Course in Reno.
“The weather caught everyone a bit off guard,” Douglas coach Stephen Gustafson said. “It started raining and the wind picked up right at the start of the tournament. For the first half of the match, it was very cold and wet.”
Hickam, a freshman, shot 40-44 over the front and back nine holes on a day when she tied for second-place individually.
Pimental placed fifth during a round in which she shot 45-41.
Emma Sperry shot 97 and Amanda Davidson 104 to round out the team scoring for Douglas.
“Amanda improved greatly over the past week and had a great back nine (47) which included a birdie on the tough par-3 No. 16,” Gustafson noted.
Hunter Langford shot a career-best 105 with no number on her scorecard than exceeded 7.
“Sierra Sage was the longest course we have played this season, almost 5,600 yards,” Gustafson pointed out. “With the weather conditions, punched greens, and length, the kids overall did a great job.”
The Tigers play again on Wednesday at The Golf Club at ArrowCreek.
