Fast start sparks Tigers girls to win

A 19-4 run through the first quarter put the Douglas High girls basketball team on track to a 34-21 victory against Spring Creek on Thursday night at the High Sierra Winter Challenge.

Maddy Lowe scored 10 points to lead a balanced offense in which eight different players contributed as Douglas (2-0 overall) won the tournament contest at Spanish Springs High in Sparks. Lowe shot 5-for-10 from the field.

Leonna Mortimer added five points and five rebounds, while McKenna Kynett had five steals and three assists.

Douglas never looked back after taking a 15-point lead in the first quarter. The Tigers pushed their lead to 26-9 at halftime and 32-11 after three quarters against Spring Creek, the Northern Division I-A Region runner-up last season.
