The Sierra Lutheran High School boys basketball team boosted its playoff prospects Friday with a 50-27 Western Division IV victory at Smith Valley.

Sierra Lutheran (14-7 overall, 8-3 league) celebrates Senior Night Friday with a league game against Pyramid Lake at 7:30 p.m. and then hosts Virginia City in a 5:30 p.m. contest on Saturday.

Sierra Lutheran staged a fourth quarter rally on Jan. 3 to post a 61-60 victory at Virginia City.

Whittell (10-1) stands alone in first-place in the West, while Virginia City (9-2) holds a one game edge over Sierra Lutheran for second-place.


Natalie Echeverria, Cali Benton and Amy Westre combined to score 24 points Saturday for Sierra Lutheran in its 31-24 win against Sage Ridge in Reno.

Echeverria scored 9 points, while Benton added 8 points and Westre 7 to lead the Falcons (9-13 overall, 4-7 Western Division IV).

Sierra Lutheran led 14-13 at halftime and gained some breathing room in the fourth quarter. The Falcons took a 21-18 lead into the final period.

In other Western Division IV action on Saturday, Mineral County rallied to secure a 41-31 victory at home against Coleville. Nicole Smith scored 8 points and Shaylor McCann 7 to lead Coleville offensively. Smith also grabbed 11 rebounds and 5 steals.
