Falcons’ boys defeat Serpents
Michael Patrick and Nick Walker combined to score 41 points Tuesday night to help the Sierra Lutheran High School boys basketball team to a 61-53 Western Division IV victory at home against Mineral County.
Patrick had 21 points and Walker 20, while Evan Lewis and Jerod Hamilton added 8 each as the Falcons improved their league record to 6-2 (12-6 overall) and moved into third-place in the league standings. Four teams are all within striking distance of first-place in a race currently led by Whittell (6-1), followed by Virginia City (5-1), Sierra Lutheran and Mineral County (4-2).
Sierra Lutheran was up 19-8 after one quarter and 32-23 at halftime. The Falcons and Serpents were tied at 40 after three quarters.
In an earlier contest Tuesday, Mineral County defeated Sierra Lutheran 42-17 in the girls game. Cali Benton scored 6 points and Amy Westre 5, while Natalie Echeverria added 7 rebounds and 3 steals for the Falcons.
Sierra Lutheran (7-11 overall, 2-5 league) hosts Coleville (3-5 league) on Saturday. The girls play at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m.
