Douglas rallies to defeat Reno
Freshman Kettja Bennett pitched the distance and scored the tying run in the seventh inning Friday when the Douglas High softball team rallied for a 5-4 win against Reno at the Reed Spring Break Tournament in Sparks.
Mackenzie Brixey singled to drive Mackenzie Peters home with the winning run in the seventh. Bennett walked to lead off the rally, advanced on a Madison Rodgers sacrifice and scored when Peters singled. Allison Meyer doubled off the fence to set up the winning hit.
Bennett allowed three earned runs on six hits over seven innings. She finished with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Later on Friday, Douglas (5-5-1) absorbed a 16-2 defeat at the hands of Alhambra (Martinez, Calif.).
Alyssa Smokey and Aiyana Pitts combined to pitch a four-inning no-hitter Friday as the Douglas JV squad defeated Carson during the Nicole Snyder Memorial Softball Tournament at Stodick Park.
Smokey started and work three innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Pitts struck out two of the three batters she faced in the fourth.
Bailey Walter slammed a two-run homer over the fence in left-center field to help Douglas close out the game. Smokey went 3-for-3 with a two-run single in the first inning and a double. Pitts also went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI.
