Douglas JV runners set personal bests at Spanish Springs invite
Sean Dunkleman and Jesse George ran personal record times to place fourth and fifth respectively for Douglas High on Tuesday in the boys race at the Spanish Springs Invitational cross country meet at Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks.
Dunkleman, a sophomore, completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:39 and George, a junior, was just one step behind in 18:40 in a meet billed as the Northern Division I junior varsity championships. Dunkleman was 31 seconds faster than his previous best time for 3.1 miles and George was 57 seconds faster than his previous best set at the 2014 Spanish Springs race.
The duo helped lead Douglas to second-place in the JV boys team standings with 61 points. McQueen won the team title with 39 points.
Freshman Luke Gansberg ran 18:57 to place 13th, Carson Osborn ran 19:10 to place 19th and Wes Alexander ran 19:10 for 20th to round out the Douglas team scoring. Cameron Northcutt and Brandon Theilman were close behind with respective times of 19:21 and 19:24. All five times represented personal records.
In the girls race, sophomores Hannah Corgan ran a personal best 22:59 and Baylee Wood ran 23:10 to place seventh and 10th respectively. Lindsay Hudnall ran 23:46 to place 13h, Emilie Prudomme ran 23:52 to place 14th and freshman Tori Kumagai ran 24:00 to take 17th place (all three times were personal bests).
Damonte Ranch won the team title with 17 points, while Douglas finished second with 56 points.
The Douglas varsity boys and girls compete today when the Sierra League Championships are held at 3 p.m. at Rancho San Rafael Park.
