Douglas golfers improve
Douglas High’s Hunter Langford and Aspen Smokey carded personal best scores Tuesday during Sierra League play in Carson City.
Langford, a senior, shot 102 and Smokey, a freshman, checked in with a 107 on Eagle Valley’s East Course.
Langford made the turn with a strong 47, according to coach Stephen Gustafson.
“Hunter had a great front nine, hitting most of the fairways and carding a few pars,” Gustafson noted. “She was feeling very confident, unfortunately, she struggled a bit on the back nine (55) and will spend the next week focusing on improving on those areas.”
Smokey, playing in her second career tournament, improved her score by 21 shots from the week before at Toiyabe Golf Club in Washoe Valley. She shot 53 for the front nine holes and 54 for the back nine, with no score over an 8, Gustafson pointed out.
“Overall, I was pleased with their performance today,” he noted.
The next Sierra League tournament is scheduled for Thursday at Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno.
