Douglas girls to host unbeaten Greenwave
A young Douglas girls basketball team will be looking to make steps of progress Saturday afternoon when it hosts Fallon for a non-league contest.
Douglas (1-4 overall, 0-2 league) faces Fallon (5-0, 1-0) in a game scheduled for a noon tip-off at Randy Green Court.
The Tigers, who are starting four freshmen in their lineup, are coming off a 54-31 loss Tuesday night against McQueen in a Northern Division I crossover contest in Reno.
“We’re just playing young right now,” said coach Werner Christen. “We’re waiting for consistency which will happen. This is a fun team to coach.”
Maddy Lowe scored 16 points to lead Douglas offensively. Freshman guard Kendra McAninch had 18 points, four steals and three assists to pace McQueen (6-1, 2-0). The Lancers took a 13-4 lead after one quarter and 25-13 at halftime.
The Fallon Greenwave, coming off a 61-35 win at Lowry on Tuesday, are led by freshman guard Leilani Otuafi (18.5-point average) and center/forward Megan McCormick (14.5).
